Senior Character Artist

Thought Pennies Entertainment is a Role-Playing Game studio focused on social storytelling. We celebrate diversity and a people-first approach to game development. We are fully remote anywhere in North America.

We are looking for a 3D Character Artist with mid level or above experience. This is a key role in crafting characters, creatures, and props for an epic-fantasy world. This artist skillfully produces characters with partnership from the Lead Character Artist and Concept Art team, as well as frequent support and collaboration with the Art Manager, Production staff, and Game Director. The 3D Character Artist may interact with members of the Thought Pennies greater Art organization, especially Animation, Tech Art, and Cinematics.

This role requires a solid understanding of various fidelity art bars, 3D character creation techniques, and a sense for character design with excellent translation from concept to 3D game space.

Things You Will Do

  • Work closely with the Lead Character Artist and wider art organization to execute the artistic vision of the project and to ensure characters are on-style, at-fidelity bar, and on-brand.
  • Create high-quality, compelling game characters using industry standard techniques.
  • Create 3D character assets are performant, technically sound, and ready for rigging, deformation and animation.
  • Uphold the aesthetics and fidelity of character art from creation to player-facing presentation.
  • Contribute to the reference library.
  • Contribute to a studio culture committed to craft, collaboration, and empowerment.

What We’d Like to See

  • 5+ years of experience in game development with a strong focus on character art (or relevant knowledge)
  • A passion for crafting believable and compelling characters
  • Ease of working with modeling, sculpting and texturing programs such as Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter, and Photoshop (or relevant, industry-standard packages).
  • Unreal Engine experience (4 or 5 preferred)
  • Deep knowledge of human and creature anatomy, form, and color theory
  • Demonstrated ability to create a range of stylized characters

Bonus Skills You May Have

  • Familiarity with Xgen for groom
  • Marvelous designer for cloth work
  • Material creation in UE
  • Know how to use Wrap3D
  • Understanding of game engine (e.g. Unreal) possibilities/ limitations as pertains to character design/ authoring/ implementation, in-game appearance, interaction, and performance.

Salary

This role pays $136,851 USD and provides full benefits for the employee and all dependents. The role is only open to those able to legally work and who currently reside in the US and Canada.
